Traffic spikes vs tires: what happens when you drive the wrong wayWatch on YouTube
Real test. Full-size pickup, surface-mounted system, asphalt.
How it works/ 03
Right way: a bump. Wrong way: four flats.
Every tooth is a spring-loaded steel blade with a gentle slope on one face and a steep point on the other. Which way you're driving decides which one you meet.
- 01
Roll out
Tires climb the slope and push each tooth down into its slot. At parking-lot speed, drivers barely feel it.
- 02
Snap back
Springs return every tooth upright the moment the tire clears. Ready for the next car, all day, every day.
- 03
Stop cold
Come in the wrong way and the tire meets the point, not the slope. Motorized systems can drop flat on command when a lane needs to run both ways.
